Then the year 140 AH began
وَفِيهَا سَيَّرَ الْمَنْصُورُ عَبْدَ الْوَهَّابِ ابْنَ أَخِيهِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْإِمَامِ، وَالْحَسَنَ بْنَ قَحْطَبَةَ فِي سَبْعِينَ أَلْفًا مِنَ الْمُقَاتِلَةِ إِلَى مَلَطْيَةَ، فَنَزَلُوا عَلَيْهَا وَعَمَّرُوا مَا كَانَ خَرَّبَهُ الرُّومُ مِنْهَا، فَفَرَغُوا مِنَ الْعِمَارَةِ فِي سِتَّةِ أَشْهُرٍ، وَكَانَ لِلْحَسَنِ فِي ذَلِكَ أَثَرٌ عَظِيمٌ، وَأَسْكَنَهَا الْمَنْصُورُ أَرْبَعَةَ آلَافٍ مِنَ الْجُنْدِ، وَأَكْثَرَ فِيهَا مِنَ السِّلَاحِ وَالذَّخَائِرِ، وَبَنَى حِصْنَ قَلَوْذِيَةَ. وَلَمَّا سَمِعَ مَلِكُ الرُّومِ بِمَسِيرِ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ، وَالْحَسَنِ إِلَى مَلَطْيَةَ، سَارَ إِلَيْهِمْ فِي مِائَةِ أَلْفِ مُقَاتِلٍ فَنَزَلَ جَيْحَانَ، فَبَلَغَهُ كَثْرَةُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَعَادَ عَنْهُمْ. وَلَمَّا عُمِّرَتْ مَلَطْيَةُ عَادَ إِلَيْهَا مَنْ كَانَ بَاقِيًا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا.
Translation
✧ In it al-Manṣūr sent ʿAbd al-Wahhāb, the son of his brother Ibrāhīm the Imām, and al-Ḥasan b. Qaḥṭabah with seventy thousand fighting men to Malaṭyah. They encamped against it and rebuilt what the Byzantines had destroyed of it. They finished the construction in six months, and al-Ḥasan had a great role in that. Al-Manṣūr settled four thousand troops in it and increased its weapons and stores, and he built the fortress of Qalawdhiyah. When the king of the Byzantines heard of the march of ʿAbd al-Wahhāb and al-Ḥasan to Malaṭyah, he marched against them with one hundred thousand fighting men and encamped at Jayḥān. News of the Muslims' great numbers reached him, so he turned back from them. When Malaṭyah was rebuilt, those of its people who remained returned to it.
