Then the year 140 AH began
وَفِيهَا أَمَرَ الْمَنْصُورُ بِعِمَارَةِ مَدِينَةِ الْمِصِّيصَةِ عَلَى يَدِ جَبْرَائِيلَ بْنِ يَحْيَى، وَكَانَ سُورُهَا قَدْ تَشَعَّثَ مِنَ الزَّلَازِلِ وَأَهْلُهَا قَلِيلٌ، فَبَنَى السُّورَ وَسَمَّاهَا الْمَعْمُورَةَ، وَبَنَى بِهَا مَسْجِدًا جَامِعًا، وَفَرَضَ فِيهَا لِأَلْفِ رَجُلٍ، وَأَسْكَنَهَا كَثِيرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهَا.
Translation
✧ In this year al-Manṣūr ordered the construction of the city of al-Miṣṣīṣah at the hand of Jabrāʾīl b. Yaḥyā. Its wall had been cracked by earthquakes and its inhabitants were few. He built the wall and named it al-Maʿmūrah, built a congregational mosque in it, assigned stipends in it for a thousand men, and settled many of its people there.
