Translation

✧ In this year the caliphate of al-Dākhil over the lands of al-Andalus began. He was ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān al-Hishāmī. He had entered the lands of the Maghrib and passed with those companions who were with him by a people fighting over the partisanship of the Yamanīs and the Muḍarīs. He sent his mawlā Badr to them, and he won them over to his side, and they pledged allegiance to him, and he entered with them, and he conquered the lands of al-Andalus and took possession of them, seizing them from the hand of its governor Yūsuf b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Ḥabīb b. Abī ʿUbaydah b. ʿUqbah b. Nāfiʿ al-Fihrī, and he killed him. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān settled in Qurṭubah, and his caliphate in those lands continued from this year—meaning the year 138—until the year 172, in which he died, having reigned for thirty-four years and some months. Then after him his son Hishām arose for six years and some months, then he died. Then his son al-Ḥakam b. Hishām ruled for twenty-six years and some months. Then after him his son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam ruled for thirty-three years. Then after him Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Ḥakam ruled for twenty-six years. Then his son al-Mundhir b. Muḥammad, then his brother ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad, then his grandson ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. al-Mundhir. His days were long after the three hundreds. Then that dynasty came to an end as we shall mention. Then those years and their people passed away, as if they were at an appointed time.
