✧ Mention of the renunciation of allegiance by Jumhūr b. Mirār al-ʿIjlī In this year Jumhūr b. Mirār renounced allegiance to al-Manṣūr at al-Rayy. The reason for that was that when Jumhūr defeated Sunbādh, he seized what was in his camp, and in it were the treasuries of Abū Muslim. He did not send them to al-Manṣūr, so he feared and renounced allegiance. Al-Manṣūr sent Muḥammad b. al-Ashʿath against him with a great army toward al-Rayy. Jumhūr departed from it toward Iṣbahān, and Muḥammad entered al-Rayy, and Jumhūr took possession of Iṣbahān. Muḥammad sent an army against him and remained in al-Rayy. Some of Jumhūr's companions advised him to march with the elite of his army toward Muḥammad, for he was in a small force; if he prevailed, there would be no remnant after him. So he marched against him swiftly. News of him reached Muḥammad, so he was on guard and took precautions. An army from Khurāsān came to him, and he was strengthened by them. They met at the palace of al-Fīrūzān between al-Rayy and Iṣbahān and fought a great battle. With Jumhūr were the elite horsemen of the Persians. Jumhūr was defeated, and a great number of his companions were killed. Jumhūr fled and joined Azerbaijan. Then after that he was killed at Isbādhrūā; his companions killed him and carried his head to al-Manṣūr.
