ذِكْرُ قَتْلِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَحْيَى وَلَمَّا أَقَامَ ابْنُ عَطِيَّةَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ شَهْرًا سَارَ نَحْوَ الْيَمَنِ، وَاسْتَخْلَفَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ الْوَلِيدَ بْنَ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ، وَاسْتَخْلَفَ عَلَى مَكَّةَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الشَّامِ، وَقَصَدَ الْيَمَنَ، وَبَلَغَ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَحْيَى طَالِبَ الْحَقِّ مَسِيرُهُ وَهُوَ بِصَنْعَاءَ، فَأَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ بِمَنْ مَعَهُ، فَالْتَقَى هُوَ وَابْنُ عَطِيَّةَ فَاقْتَتَلُوا، فَقُتِلَ ابْنُ يَحْيَى وَحُمِلَ رَأَسُهُ إِلَى مَرْوَانَ بِالشَّامِ، وَمَضَى ابْنُ عَطِيَّةَ إِلَى صَنْعَاءَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the killing of ʿAbd Allāh b. Yaḥyā When Ibn ʿAṭiyyah had stayed in al-Madīnah for a month, he set out toward al-Yaman, appointing al-Walīd b. ʿUrwah b. Muḥammad b. ʿAṭiyyah as his deputy over al-Madīnah, and appointing a man from the people of al-Shām as his deputy over Makkah. He headed for al-Yaman. ʿAbd Allāh b. Yaḥyā Ṭālib al-Ḥaqq, who was in Ṣanʿāʾ, learned of his march, so he came toward him with those who were with him. He and Ibn ʿAṭiyyah met and fought. Ibn Yaḥyā was killed, and his head was carried to Marwān in al-Shām. Ibn ʿAṭiyyah proceeded to Ṣanʿāʾ.
