Translation
✧ Account of the killing of Ibn ʿAṭiyyah When Ibn ʿAṭiyyah marched to Ṣanʿāʾ, he entered it and stayed there. Marwān wrote to him ordering him to hasten his march to him so that he could lead the people in the pilgrimage. So he set out with twelve men, bearing Marwān's covenant for the pilgrimage, and with him were forty thousand. He marched, leaving his army and cavalry behind in Ṣanʿāʾ, and halted at al-Jurf. The two sons of Juhānah al-Murādī came to him with a large gathering and said to him and his companions: "You are thieves!" Ibn ʿAṭiyyah produced his covenant for the pilgrimage and said: "This is the covenant of the Commander of the Faithful for the pilgrimage, and I am Ibn ʿAṭiyyah." They said: "This is false; you are thieves." Ibn ʿAṭiyyah fought them fiercely until he was killed.
