Then the Year 131 AH Began

ذِكْرُ عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَطِيَّةَ السَّعْدِيُّ ، وَهُوَ ابْنُ أَخِي عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الَّذِي قَتَلَ أَبَا حَمْزَةَ، وَكَانَ هُوَ عَلَى الْحِجَازِ. وَلَمَّا بَلَغَ الْوَلِيدَ قَتْلُ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ مَضَى إِلَى الَّذِينَ قَتَلُوهُ فَقَتَلَ مِنْهُمْ مَقْتَلَةً عَظِيمَةً، وَبَقَرَ بُطُونَ نِسَائِهِمْ، وَقَتَلَ الصِّبْيَانَ، وَحَرَّقَ بِالنَّارِ مَنْ قَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ مِنْهُمْ. وَكَانَ عَلَى الْعِرَاقِ يَزِيدُ [ بْنُ عُمَرَ ] بْنِ هُبَيْرَةَ، وَعَلَى قَضَاءِ الْكُوفَةِ: الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ عَاصِمٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ، وَعَلَى قَضَاءِ الْبَصْرَةِ: عَبَّادُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ النَّاجِيُّ.

Translation

✧ Mention of Several Events Al-Walīd b. ʿUrwah b. Muḥammad b. ʿAṭiyyah al-Saʿdī led the people in the pilgrimage. He was the nephew of ʿAbd al-Malik b. Muḥammad, the one who killed Abū Ḥamzah, and he was governor of the Hijaz. When news of the killing of his uncle ʿAbd al-Malik reached al-Walīd, he went after those who killed him and killed a great number of them, ripped open the bellies of their women, killed the children, and burned with fire those of them whom he could seize. Yazīd [b. ʿUmar] b. Hubayrah was governor of Iraq. Over the judiciary of Kufa was al-Ḥajjāj b. ʿĀṣim al-Muḥāribī, and over the judiciary of Basra was ʿAbbād b. Manṣūr al-Nājī.
