Translation
✧ Mention of Qaḥṭabah's march against Ibn Hubayrah in Iraq When Dāwūd, the son of Yazīd b. ʿUmar b. Hubayrah, the governor of Iraq, came to him fleeing from Ḥulwān, Yazīd set out towards Qaḥṭabah with a great, uncountable number, and with him was Ḥawtharah b. Suhayl al-Bāhilī, for Marwān had reinforced Ibn Hubayrah with him. Ibn Hubayrah marched until he encamped at Jalūlāʾ al-Waqīʿah and dug the trench that the Persians had dug in the days of the battle of Jalūlāʾ, and he stayed there. Qaḥṭabah advanced until he encamped at Qarmāsīn, then marched to Ḥulwān, then to Khāniqīn, and he came to ʿUkbarāʾ, crossed the Tigris, and went on until he encamped at Dimimmā, below al-Anbār. Ibn Hubayrah departed with those who were with him, turning back and hurrying to al-Kūfah ahead of Qaḥṭabah, while Ḥawtharah arrived in al-Kūfah with fifteen thousand. It is said that Ḥawtharah did not part from Ibn Hubayrah. Qaḥṭabah sent a band of his companions to al-Anbār and elsewhere, and ordered them to bring down the ships that were there to Dimimmā so that they could cross the Euphrates. They brought him every ship there, and Qaḥṭabah crossed the Euphrates from Dimimmā until he was on its western bank, then he marched towards al-Kūfah until he reached the place where Ibn Hubayrah was, and the year ended.
