Translation
✧ Mention of the conquest of Shahrazūr Then Qaḥṭabah dispatched Abū ʿAwn ʿAbd al-Malik b. Yazīd al-Khurāsānī and Mālik b. Ṭarāfah al-Khurāsānī with four thousand men to Shahrazūr, where ʿUthmān b. Sufyān commanded the vanguard of ʿAbd Allāh b. Marwān b. Muḥammad. They encamped two farsakhs from Shahrazūr on the twentieth of Dhū al-Ḥijjah and fought ʿUthmān a day and a night after their arrival. ʿUthmān's companions were routed and he was killed, and Abū ʿAwn remained in the lands of al-Mawṣil. It is said that ʿUthmān was not killed but fled to ʿAbd Allāh b. Marwān. Abū ʿAwn seized his camp as booty and inflicted a great slaughter among his companions. Qaḥṭabah sent troops to Abū ʿAwn, and thirty thousand men gathered with him. When news of Abū ʿAwn reached Marwān b. Muḥammad, who was in Ḥarrān, he marched from there with the troops of the people of Syria, the Jazīrah, and al-Mawṣil, and the Banū Umayyah mustered their sons with him. He advanced toward Abū ʿAwn until he encamped at the Greater Zāb. Abū ʿAwn remained in Shahrazūr for the rest of Dhū al-Ḥijjah and Muḥarram of the year one hundred and thirty-two, and he assigned stipends there to five thousand men.
