Translation

✧ Then the year 131 AH began. Mention of the death of Naṣr b. Sayyār In this year Naṣr b. Sayyār died at Sāwah near al-Rayy. The reason for his traveling there was that after the killing of Nubātah, Naṣr marched to Khawār al-Rayy, whose governor was Abū Bakr al-ʿAqīlī. Qaḥṭabah sent his son al-Ḥasan against Naṣr in Muḥarram of the year 131 AH. Then he sent Abū Kāmil, Abū al-Qāsim Muḥriz b. Ibrāhīm, and Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Marwazī to his son al-Ḥasan. When they were close to al-Ḥasan, Abū Kāmil defected and left his army, went to Naṣr, joined him, and informed him of the location of the troops he had left. Naṣr sent troops against them, and Qaḥṭabah's troops fled from them, leaving behind some of their baggage, which Naṣr's men took. Naṣr sent a message to Ibn Hubayrah. Ibn Ghuṭayf intercepted it at al-Rayy, took the letter from Naṣr's messenger and the baggage, and sent it to Ibn Hubayrah. Naṣr became angry and said: 'By God, I will leave Ibn Hubayrah alone, and he will know that neither he nor his son is anything.' Ibn Ghuṭayf was in command of three thousand men whom Ibn Hubayrah had dispatched to Naṣr. He stayed at al-Rayy and did not come to Naṣr. Naṣr marched until he encamped at al-Rayy, where Ḥabīb b. Yazīd al-Nahshalī was governor. When Naṣr arrived there, Ibn Ghuṭayf marched from there to Hamadhān, where Mālik b. Adham b. Muḥriz al-Bāhilī was. Ibn Ghuṭayf turned away from it to Iṣbahān to ʿĀmir b. Ḍubārah. When Naṣr reached al-Rayy, he stayed there two days, then fell ill and had to be carried. When he reached Sāwah, he died. When he died there, his companions entered Hamadhān. His death occurred after twelve nights had passed of Rabīʿ al-Awwal. He was eighty-five years old. It is said that when Naṣr marched from Khawār al-Rayy heading toward al-Rayy, he did not enter al-Rayy, but took the desert route between al-Rayy and Hamadhān and died there.
