Translation
✧ Mention of the Shīʿa of Banū al-ʿAbbās In this year Ibrāhīm the Imam sent Abū Muslim al-Khurāsānī—whose name was ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Muslim—to Khurāsān, when he was nineteen years old. He wrote to his companions: 'I have commanded him with my affair, so listen to him and obey, for I have appointed him over Khurāsān and whatever he conquers after that.' He came to them, but they did not accept his statement and went out the following year. They met at Makkah with Ibrāhīm, and Abū Muslim informed him that they had not carried out his letter and his command. Ibrāhīm said: 'I have offered this affair to more than one, and they refused it to me.' He had offered it to Sulaymān b. Kathīr, and he said: 'I will never govern over two.' Then he offered it to Ibrāhīm b. Salama, and he refused. He informed them that he had resolved his opinion upon Abū Muslim, and he commanded them to hear and obey him. Then he said to him: 'You are a man from us, the People of the House. Preserve my testament. Look to this tribe from Yemen and attach yourself to them and dwell among them, for God will not complete this affair except through them. Be suspicious of Rabīʿa in their matter. As for Muḍar, they are the enemy whose abode is near. Kill anyone about whom you have doubt. If you are able not to leave in Khurāsān anyone who speaks Arabic, then do so. Any boy who reaches five spans and whom you suspect, kill him. Do not oppose this elder—meaning Sulaymān b. Kathīr—and do not disobey him. If a matter becomes unclear to you, suffice with him on my behalf.' More news of Abū Muslim will come other than this, if God Almighty wills.
