Chapter mentioning a group of the prophets of the Israelites after Mūsā (peace be upon him)
Translation
✧ When Ashmūʾīl grew up, she placed him in the House of the Sanctuary (Bayt al-Maqdis) to learn the Torah, and an elder among their scholars took charge of him and adopted him. When he reached the point that God would send him as a prophet, Jibrāʾīl came to him while he was praying and called him with a voice resembling the voice of the elder. He went to him and said, "What do you want?" He disliked saying "I did not call you" lest he be startled, so he said, "Go back and sleep." He went back, and Jibrāʾīl returned similarly. He went to the elder, who said to him, "My son, go back, and if I call you, do not answer me." When it was the third time, Jibrāʾīl appeared to him and commanded him to warn his people, and informed him that God had sent him as a messenger. He called them, but they rejected him; then they obeyed him, and he continued managing their affairs for ten years—though it is said forty years. The affair of the Children of Israel from the period of the death of Yūshaʿ was at times to the prophets we have mentioned, at times to the judges, at times to the governors, and at times to an enemy who subdued them—until kingship and prophethood returned to them through Ashmūʾīl. That period was four hundred and sixty years.
