Translation

✧ In Jumādā al-Ākhirah of this year, and that was two months after his accession, he concluded the oath of allegiance for his two sons, al-Ḥakam and ʿUthmān, after him, and made them his heirs apparent, one after the other, [and he placed al-Ḥakam before ʿUthmān]. He entrusted al-Ḥakam with Syria and ʿUthmān with Ḥimṣ. He wrote about that to the provincial capitals. Among those to whom he wrote about that was Yūsuf b. ʿUmar, who was al-Walīd's governor over Iraq at that time. Yūsuf wrote about that to Naṣr b. Sayyār so that the people would pledge allegiance to the two of them.
