Translation
✧ He wrote to al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Malik b. Marwān to come to al-Ruṣāfah, to inventory what was in it of the wealth of Hishām and his children, and to seize his governors and servants, except Maslamah b. Hishām, for he wrote to him: Do not touch him, and do not enter his house, for he used to frequently speak to his father about kindness and restrain him. So al-ʿAbbās arrived at al-Ruṣāfah and carried out thoroughly what al-Walīd had written to him. Al-Walīd appointed the governors, and his pledge of allegiance came from the horizons, and delegations came to him. In this year: al-Walīd b. Yazīd sent his maternal uncle Yūsuf b. Muḥammad b. Yūsuf al-Thaqafī as governor over Madinah, Makkah, and al-Ṭāʾif, and he handed over to him Ibrāhīm and Muḥammad, the two sons of Hishām b. Ismāʿīl al-Makhzūmī, bound in two cloaks, and he displayed them to the people in Madinah. Then al-Walīd wrote to him commanding him to send the two of them to Yūsuf b. ʿUmar, who was then his governor over Iraq. When they came to him, he tortured them until he killed them. It had been reported against them to al-Walīd that they had taken much wealth. He provided stipends to the chronically ill and the blind of the people of Syria, and clothed them, and ordered for each one of them a servant. He distributed perfume and clothing to the people's dependents, and increased them over what Hishām used to distribute to them. He increased all the people in the stipend by tens. Then he increased the people of Syria, after the increase of tens, by ten more, ten more for the people of Syria specifically. And he doubled the gifts of those of his own family who came to him as delegates.
