Translation

✧ Mention of the propagandists of the Banū al-ʿAbbās In this year, Bukayr b. Māhān dispatched ʿAmmār b. Yazīd to Khurāsān as governor over the Shīʿa of the Banū al-ʿAbbās. He settled in Marw, changed his name, and called himself Khidāsh. He called people to Muḥammad b. ʿAlī, and the people hastened to him and obeyed him. Then he changed what he had called them to, lied, and manifested the religion of the Khurramiyya [and called to it]. He permitted some of them access to the women of others, and said to them: 'There is no fasting, no prayer, and no pilgrimage. The interpretation of fasting is that one abstains from mentioning the Imam, so that his name is not divulged; prayer is supplication for him; and pilgrimage is the journey to him.' He interpreted from the Qur'an the words of the Almighty: 'There is no blame on those who believe and do righteous deeds for what they have eaten, if they fear Allah and believe and do righteous deeds.' Khidāsh had been a Christian in al-Kūfa, then he embraced Islam and joined Khurāsān. Among those who followed him in his doctrine were Mālik b. al-Haytham, al-Ḥarīsh b. Sulaym al-Aʿjamī, and others. He informed them that Muḥammad b. ʿAlī had commanded that. News of him reached Asad b. ʿAbd Allāh, who seized him. Khidāsh spoke harshly to Asad, so Asad cut out his tongue, gouged out his eyes, and said: 'Praise be to Allah who has avenged Abū Bakr and ʿUmar upon you!' He ordered Yaḥyā b. Nuʿaym al-Shaybānī, who killed him and crucified him at Āmul. Asad was brought a slaughtered camel belonging to the mawlā of al-Muhājir b. Dāra al-Ḍabbī, and he struck his neck on the bank of the river.
