Translation

✧ Mention of several events In the year 111, Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām raided the left summer expedition, and Saʿīd b. Hishām raided the right summer expedition until he reached Caesarea, and ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Maryam raided by sea. Hishām appointed al-Ḥakam b. Qays b. Makhramah b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib b. ʿAbd Manāf over the general mass of people of Syria and Egypt. In it, Hishām appointed al-Jarrāḥ b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Ḥakamī over Armenia, and dismissed his brother Maslamah b. ʿAbd al-Malik. He entered the land of the Khazars from the direction of Tiflīs, conquered their city al-Bayḍāʾ, and returned safely. The Khazars gathered and mobilized, and marched to the lands of Islam. This was the cause of the killing of al-Jarrāḥ, as we shall mention, God Almighty willing. In it, ʿUbaydah b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, the governor of Ifrīqiyah, dismissed ʿUthmān b. Nisʿah from al-Andalus, and appointed after him al-Haytham b. ʿUbayd al-Kinānī. He arrived there in Muḥarram of the year 111, and died in Dhū al-Ḥijjah of the year, his tenure being ten months. In this year, Ibrāhīm b. Hishām al-Makhzūmī led the pilgrimage. The governors were those mentioned previously, except Khurasān, where al-Junayd was, and Armenia, where al-Jarrāḥ b. ʿAbd Allāh was. In it, the Turks headed for the land of Adharbayjān, and al-Ḥārith b. ʿAmr met them and defeated them. When al-Junayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān arrived in Khurasān as its amir, the cavalry of the Turks, fleeing from the Muslims, met him while he was with seven thousand. They drew up in ranks and fought a fierce battle. They coveted him and those with him because of their small number relative to them, and their king Khāqān was with them. Al-Junayd was on the verge of perishing, then God granted him victory over them, and he routed them with a disgraceful defeat, and captured the nephew of their king, and sent him to the caliph.
