The Year 109
وَفِي سَنَةُ تِسْعٍ وَمِائَةٍ حَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، فَخَطَبَ بِمِنًى مِنْ غَدِ يَوْمِ النَّحْرِ بَعْدَ الظُّهْرِ وَقَالَ: سَلُونِي فَمَا تَسْأَلُونَ أَحَدًا أَعْلَمَ مِنِّي، فَقَامَ [إِلَيْهِ] رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِرَاقِ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الْأُضْحِيَّةِ أَوَاجِبَةٌ هِيَ؟ فَمَا عَلِمَ مَا يَقُولُ، فَنَزَلَ. وَكَانَ الْعَامِلَ عَلَى الْمَدِينَةِ وَمَكَّةَ وَالطَّائِفِ. وَكَانَ عَلَى الْبَصْرَةِ وَالْكُوفَةِ خَالِدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، وَعَلَى الصَّلَاةِ بِالْبَصْرَةِ أَبَانُ بْنُ ضُبَارَةَ، وَعَلَى شُرْطَتِهَا بِلَالُ بْنُ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، وَعَلَى قَضَائِهَا ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ مِنْ قِبَلِ خَالِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، وَعَلَى خُرَاسَانَ أَشْرَسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ السُّلَمِيُّ.
Translation
✧ In the year nine and one hundred, Ibrāhīm b. Hishām led the people in the pilgrimage. He delivered a sermon at Minā on the day after the Day of Sacrifice, after the noon prayer, and said: “Ask me, for you will not ask anyone more knowledgeable than I.” A man from the people of Iraq stood up to him and asked him about the sacrificial animal: Is it obligatory? He did not know what to say, so he descended. He was the governor over al-Madīnah, Makkah, and al-Ṭāʾif. Over al-Baṣrah and al-Kūfah was Khālid b. ʿAbd Allāh, over prayer in al-Baṣrah was Abān b. Ḍubārah, over its police was Bilāl b. Abī Burdah, and over its judiciary was Thumāmah b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Anṣārī on behalf of Khālid b. ʿAbd Allāh. Over Khurāsān was Ashras b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Sulamī.
