✧ Al-Junayd's taking possession of some of the lands of al-Sind and his killing of its ruler Jayshabah In the year one hundred and seven, Khālid al-Qasrī appointed al-Junayd b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān over al-Sind. He encamped on the bank of the Mihrān, and Jayshabah b. Dhāhir prevented him from crossing, saying, "We are Muslims. The righteous man—meaning ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz—appointed me over my lands, and I do not trust you." So al-Junayd gave him hostages and took hostages from him for the land tax due on his lands. Then they exchanged the hostages, and Jayshabah reneged and fought him. It is also said that he did not fight him, but al-Junayd fabricated a charge against him. He went to al-Hind, gathered forces, and seized the ships, preparing for war. Al-Junayd also marched against him in ships, and they met. Jayshabah was taken captive after his ship ran aground, and al-Junayd killed him. His brother Ṣaṣṣah fled to al-ʿIrāq to complain of al-Junayd's treachery, but al-Junayd deceived him until he came to him and then killed him. Al-Junayd raided al-Kayraj, whose people had broken their treaty, and he conquered it by force. He also conquered Arazīn, al-Māliyyah, and other places on that frontier.
