Translation

✧ The emergence of Masʿūd al-ʿAbdī Masʿūd b. Abī Zaynab al-ʿAbdī emerged in al-Baḥrayn against al-Ashʿath b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Jārūd. Al-Ashʿath left al-Baḥrayn, and Masʿūd marched to al-Yamāmah, which Sufyān b. ʿAmr al-ʿUqaylī governed, having been appointed over it by ʿUmar b. Hubayrah. Sufyān went out to meet him, and they fought a severe battle at al-Khiḍrimah. Masʿūd was killed, and after him Hilāl b. Mudlij took charge of the Khawārij's affair. He fought them the whole of that day, and some of the Khawārij were killed, and Zaynab, the sister of Masʿūd, was killed. When evening came, Hilāl's companions dispersed from him, and he remained with a small group. He entered a fortress and fortified himself in it. They set ladders against it, climbed up to him, and killed him. His companions sought a guarantee of safety, and he granted them security. Al-Farazdaq said about this day: By my life, Ḥanīfah drew swords that refused on the day of battle to be changed. They left for Masʿūd and his sister Zaynab a cloak and a shirt of red death. They showed the Ḥarūriyyah on the day of meeting them at Burqān a day that makes death sorrel-colored. It is also said that Masʿūd had prevailed over al-Baḥrayn and al-Yamāmah for nineteen years until Sufyān b. ʿAmr al-ʿUqaylī killed him.
