ذِكْرُ مُصْعَبِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ الْوَالِبِيِّ كَانَ مُصْعَبٌ مِنْ رُؤَسَاءِ الْخَوَارِجِ، وَطَلَبَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ هُبَيْرَةَ، وَطَلَبَ مَعَهُ مَالِكَ بْنَ الصَّعْبِ، وَجَابِرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ، فَخَرَجُوا وَاجْتَمَعُوا بِالْخَوَرْنَقِ، وَأَمَّرُوا عَلَيْهِمْ مُصْعَبًا، وَمَعَهُ أُخْتُهُ آمِنَةُ، وَسَارُوا عَنْهُ. فَلَمَّا وَلِيَ هِشَامُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَى الْعِرَاقِ خَالِدًا الْقَسْرِيَّ سَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِمْ جَيْشًا، وَكَانُوا قَدْ صَارُوا بِحَزَّةَ مِنْ أَعْمَالِ الْمَوْصِلِ، فَالْتَقَوْا وَاقْتَتَلُوا، فَقُتِلَ الْخَوَارِجُ، وَقِيلَ: كَانَ قَتْلُهُمْ آخِرَ أَيَّامِ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ، فَقَالَ فِيهِمُ الشُّعَرَاءُ: فِتْيَةٌ تَعْرِفُ التَّخَشُّعَ فِيهِمْ كُلُّهُمْ أَحْكَمَ الْقُرَانَ إِمَامًا قَدْ بَرَى لَحْمَهُ التَّهَجُّدُ حَتَّى عَادَ جِلْدًا مُصَفَّرًا وَعِظَامَا غَادَرُوهُمْ بِقَاعِ حَزَّةَ صَرْعَى فَسَقَى الْغَيْثُ أَرْضَهُمْ يَا إِمَامَا
Translation
✧ Account of Muṣʿab b. Muḥammad al-Wālibī Muṣʿab was one of the leaders of the Kharijites. ʿUmar b. Hubayrah sought him, and sought along with him Mālik b. al-Ṣaʿb and Jābir b. Saʿd. They went out and gathered at al-Khawarnaq, and they appointed Muṣʿab as their commander, and with him was his sister Āminah, and they departed from it. When Hishām b. ʿAbd al-Malik assumed the caliphate and appointed Khālid al-Qasrī over Iraq, he dispatched an army against them. They had come to be at Ḥazzah in the districts of al-Mawṣil. They met and fought, and the Kharijites were killed. It was said: their killing was in the last days of Yazīd b. ʿAbd al-Malik. The poets said concerning them: Young men in whom you recognize humility, every one of them had mastered the Qurʾān as a leader; night vigil had worn away his flesh until he became yellowed skin and bones. They left them at the plain of Ḥazzah as fallen slain, so may the rain water their land, O leader.
