بَعْضِ الدُّعَاةِ لِلدَّوْلَةِ الْعَبَّاسِيَّةِ وَفِي سنة اثنتين ومائة وَجَّهَ مَيْسَرَةُ رُسُلَهُ مِنَ الْعِرَاقِ إِلَى خُرَاسَانَ، فَظَهَرَ أَمْرُ الدُّعَاةِ بِهَا، فَجَاءَ عَمْرُو بْنُ بَحِيرِ بْنِ وَرْقَاءَ السَّعْدِيُّ إِلَى سَعِيدِ خُذَيْنَةَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنْ هَاهُنَا قَوْمًا قَدْ ظَهَرَ مِنْهُمْ كَلَامٌ قَبِيحٌ، وَأَعْلَمَهُ حَالَهُمْ، فَبَعَثَ سَعِيدٌ إِلَيْهِمْ، فَأُتِيَ بِهِمْ، فَقَالَ: مِمَّنْ أَنْتُمْ ؟ قَالُوا: نَاسٌ مِنَ التُّجَّارِ. قَالَ: فَمَا هَذَا الَّذِي يُحْكَى عَنْكُمْ ؟ قَالُوا: لَا نَدْرِي. قَالَ: جِئْتُمْ دُعَاةً ؟ قَالُوا: إِنَّ لَنَا فِي أَنْفُسِنَا وَتِجَارِتِنَا شُغْلًا عَنْ هَذَا. فَقَالَ: مَنْ يَعْرِفُ هَؤُلَاءِ ؟ فَجَاءَ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ خُرَاسَانَ أَكْثَرُهُمْ مِنْ رَبِيعَةَ وَالْيَمَنِ فَقَالُوا: نَحْنُ نَعْرِفُهُمْ، وَهُمْ عَلَيْنَا إِنْ أَتَاكَ مِنْهُمْ شَيْءٌ تَكْرَهُهُ. فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُمْ.
Translation
✧ Some of the propagandists (duʿāt) for the ʿAbbāsid state In the year one hundred and two, Maysarah sent his messengers from Iraq to Khurāsān, and the affair of the propagandists became apparent there. ʿAmr b. Baḥīr b. Warqāʾ al-Saʿdī came to Saʿīd Khudhaynah and said to him: "There are people here from whom ugly talk has appeared," and he informed him of their situation. Saʿīd sent for them, and they were brought to him. He said: "From whom are you?" They said: "We are people from among the merchants." He said: "Then what is this that is reported about you?" They said: "We do not know." He said: "Have you come as propagandists?" They said: "We have enough occupation in ourselves and our trade to be busy away from this." He said: "Who knows these people?" People from the people of Khurāsān came, most of them from Rabīʿah and al-Yaman, and they said: "We know them, and they are under our guarantee, if anything you dislike comes to you from them." So he let them go on their way.
