The Year 100 of the Prophetic Hijrah

Translation

✧ In the year one hundred of the Hijrah, ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz wrote to the kings of al-Sind, summoning them to Islam on condition that he would make them rulers of their lands, and that they would have what the Muslims have and be subject to what the Muslims are subject to. His conduct had already reached them, so Jayshabah b. Dhāhir embraced Islam, and the kings adopted Arabic names for him. ʿUmar had appointed over that frontier ʿAmr b. Muslim, the brother of Qutaybah b. Muslim, who raided part of India and was victorious. The kings of al-Sind remained Muslims ruling their lands during the days of ʿUmar and Yazīd b. ʿAbd al-Malik. When the days of Hishām came, they apostatized from Islam, the reason for which we shall mention, if God Almighty wills.
