Creation of the heavens and the earth

Translation

✧ Who Possessed the Entire Earth It has been narrated to us in a ḥadīth from Mujāhid that he said: Four persons possessed the earth: two believers and two disbelievers. As for the two believers, they are Sulaymān b. Dāwūd and Dhū al-Qarnayn, and as for the two disbelievers, they are Bukht Naṣṣar and Nimrūd. Abū al-Ḥusayn b. Jaʿfar al-Munādī related that Hishām b. Muḥammad and al-Sharqī b. Qaṭāmī said: Eight persons possessed the whole world from among the jinn and mankind. Three of them were from the progeny of Jānn: Juyūmarth—and some say Juyūmarb, with a bāʾ—then after him Ṭuhūmurath possessed it, then after him his son Awshanj possessed it. Allah Almighty created Adam during the era of Awshanj. The first of the children of Adam to possess the world was Jamshād b. Būnjahān, from the progeny of Qābīl. He used to traverse the whole world every day just as the sun traverses it, arriving in the east in the forenoon and in the west in the evening. He possessed it between Adam and Nūḥ. The second was Nimrūd b. Kanʿān b. Ḥām b. Nūḥ. The third was Buwārasb, who is al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. al-Āhubūb. The fourth was Sulaymān. The fifth was Dhū al-Qarnayn. I say: If Naṣṣar is added, they become six, but I do not consider this statement to be firmly established. We will mention Juyūmarth and Ṭuhūmurath among the children of Adam.
