Translation
✧ Among those who died in this year, meaning the year ninety-five: Ibrāhīm b. Yazīd al-Nakhaʿī Ibrāhīm b. Yazīd al-Nakhaʿī He said: When we attended a funeral, or heard of a deceased person, that was recognized among us for days; because we knew that a matter had befallen him that would send him to Paradise or to the Fire, whereas you, during your funerals, speak of the affairs of your worldly life. And he said: No opinion is sound without transmission, and no transmission is sound without opinion. And he said: If you see a man being negligent about the first takbīr, then wash your hands of his success. And he said: I may see something that is blameworthy, and nothing prevents me from blaming it except fear of being afflicted with it myself. And he wept at his death, and it was said to him: What makes you weep? He said: The waiting for the Angel of Death; I do not know whether he will bring me good tidings of Paradise or of the Fire. Al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥanafiyya al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥanafiyya His kunya was Abū Muḥammad. He was foremost among his brothers in excellence, and he was the most learned of people regarding differences of opinion, jurisprudence, and exegesis. He was among the refined and intelligent men of Banū Hāshim, and he had no descendants. Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī and others said: He was the first to speak of irjāʾ, and he wrote a treatise on that, then he regretted it. Others said: He used to suspend judgment regarding ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Ṭalḥa, and al-Zubayr; he neither allied himself with them nor disparaged them. When that reached his father, Muḥammad b. al-Ḥanafiyya, he struck him and gashed his head, and said: Woe to you! Will you not ally yourself with your father ʿAlī? Abū ʿUbayd said: He died in the year ninety-five. Khalīfa said: He died during the days of ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. And God knows best.
