The Year Ninety-Three
فَتْحِ طُلَيْطِلَةَ مِنَ الْأَنْدَلُسِ وَفِي سنة ثلاث وتسعين غَضِبَ مُوسَى بْنُ نُصَيْرٍ عَلَى مَوْلَاهُ طَارِقٍ فَسَارَ إِلَيْهِ فِي رَجَبٍ مِنْهَا، وَاسْتَخْلَفَ عَلَى إِفْرِيقِيَّةَ ابْنَهُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُوسَى، وَعَبَرَ مُوسَى إِلَى طَارِقٍ فِي عَشَرَةِ آلَافٍ، فَتَلَقَّاهُ وَتَرَضَّاهُ، فَرَضِيَ عَنْهُ، وَقَبِلَ عُذْرَهُ، وَسَيَّرَهُ إِلَى طُلَيْطِلَةَ، وَهِيَ مِنْ عِظَامِ بِلَادِ الْأَنْدَلُسِ، وَهِيَ مِنْ قُرْطُبَةَ عَلَى عِشْرِينَ يَوْمًا، فَفَتَحَهَا وَأَصَابَ فِيهَا مَائِدَةَ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ دَاوُدَ، عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، وَمَا فِيهَا مِنَ الذَّهَبِ وَالْجَوْهَرِ، وَاللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ. قُلْتُ: لَمْ يَزِدْ عَلَى هَذَا، وَقَدْ ذَكَرْتُ فِي سَنَةِ اثْنَتَيْنِ وَتِسْعِينَ مِنْ فَتْحِ الْأَنْدَلُسِ وَدُخُولِ مُوسَى بْنِ نُصَيْرٍ إِلَى طَارِقٍ مَا فِيهِ كِفَايَةٌ، فَلَا حَاجَةَ إِلَى إِعَادَتِهِ، إِلَّا أَنَّ أَبَا جَعْفَرٍ قَدْ ذَكَرَ أَنَّ مُوسَى هُوَ الَّذِي سَيَّرَ طَارِقًا وَهُوَ بِالْأَنْدَلُسِ، فَفَتَحَ مَدِينَةَ طُلَيْطِلَةَ، وَالَّذِي ذَكَرَهُ أَهْلُ الْأَنْدَلُسِ فِي تَوَارِيخِهِمْ مَا تَقَدَّمَ ذِكْرُهُ.
Translation
✧ The conquest of Ṭulayṭilah in al-Andalus. In the year ninety-three, Mūsā b. Nuṣayr became angry with his mawlā Ṭāriq, so he marched to him in Rajab of that year, appointing his son ʿAbd Allāh b. Mūsā as his deputy over Ifrīqiyah. Mūsā crossed over to Ṭāriq with ten thousand men. Ṭāriq met him and sought to please him, so he became satisfied with him and accepted his excuse. He sent him to Ṭulayṭilah, one of the great cities of al-Andalus, twenty days' journey from Qurṭubah. He conquered it and obtained therein the table of Sulaymān b. Dāwūd ﷺ, with the gold and jewels it contained. Allah knows best about it. I say: He did not add anything beyond this. I have already mentioned in the year ninety-two regarding the conquest of al-Andalus and the entry of Mūsā b. Nuṣayr to Ṭāriq what is sufficient, so there is no need to repeat it. However, Abū Jaʿfar mentioned that Mūsā is the one who sent Ṭāriq while he was in al-Andalus, and he conquered the city of Ṭulayṭilah. But what the people of al-Andalus have mentioned in their histories is as previously stated.
