Translation
✧ Those of the notables who died in this year Al-Ḥasan b. al-Ḥasan b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (peace be upon them): His mother was Khawla bt. Manẓūr b. Zabān. He married Fāṭima bt. al-Ḥusayn, and she bore him ʿAbd Allāh, and he died while married to her, then ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAmr b. ʿUthmān b. ʿAffān married her after him. ʿUmar b. Yūsuf, the brother of al-Ḥajjāj. He died in Yemen while governor over it. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥajjāj, and he died six days after him. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥajjāj: Then al-Ḥajjāj said in mourning for him: Sufficient for me is God’s enduring after every deceased, sufficient for me is God’s enduring after every perished. When I come to God with Him pleased with me, then the soul’s healing lies in that which is there. Al-Sāʾib b. Yazīd, and he died in this year Al-Sāʾib b. Yazīd b. Saʿīd b. Thumāma His father had taken him on pilgrimage with the Messenger of God ﷺ, and al-Sāʾib’s age was seven years. Al-Bukhārī related it. For this reason al-Wāqidī said that he was born in the year three of the Hijra and died in the year ninety-one. Someone other than him said: in the year six. And it was said: eighty-eight. And God knows best. Sahl b. Saʿd al-Sāʿidī, a venerable Medinan Companion, died when the Messenger of God ﷺ had died and he was fifteen years old. He was among those whom al-Ḥajjāj branded on the neck in the year seventy-four, he and Anas b. Mālik, and Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh on his hand, to humiliate them lest the people listen to their opinions. Al-Wāqidī said: He died in the year ninety-one at the age of one hundred, and he was the last of the Companions to die in Madinah. Muḥammad b. Saʿd said: There is no disagreement about this. Al-Bukhārī and others said that he died in the year eighty-eight. And God knows best.
