Translation

✧ Every Muslim should be grieved by what occurred of his killing, ؓ, for he was among the masters of the Muslims and the scholars of the Companions, and the son of the daughter of the Messenger of God ﷺ, who is the most excellent of his daughters. He was devout, brave, and generous, but what the Shia do of displaying anguish and grief, most of which is likely affectation and hypocrisy, is not good. His father was more excellent than him, and they do not take his killing as a day of mourning like the day of al-Ḥusayn's killing. His father was killed on Friday, while going out to the dawn prayer, on the seventeenth of Ramadan in the year forty. Likewise, ʿUthmān was more excellent than ʿAlī according to the People of the Sunnah and the Community, and he was killed while besieged in his house during the days of Tashrīq in the month of Dhū al-Ḥijjah in the year thirty-six. He was slaughtered from one jugular vein to the other, and the people did not take the day of his killing as a day of mourning. Likewise, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, and he is more excellent than ʿUthmān and ʿAlī, was killed while standing in prayer in the miḥrāb performing the dawn prayer, reciting the Qur'an, and the people did not take the day of his killing as a day of mourning. Likewise, al-Ṣiddīq was more excellent than him, and the people did not take the day of his death as a day of mourning. The Messenger of God ﷺ, the master of the children of Adam in this world and the hereafter, God took him to Himself as the prophets before him died, and no one took the day of his death as a day of mourning in which they do what these ignorant ones among the Rāfiḍah do on the day of al-Ḥusayn's death. Nor did anyone mention that on the day of their deaths or before them anything appeared of what these people claim on the day of al-Ḥusayn's killing, such as the eclipse of the sun, the redness that rises in the sky, and other such things. The best thing to be said when mentioning these calamities and their like is what al-Ḥusayn b. ʿAlī narrated from his grandfather the Messenger of God ﷺ, that he said: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and remembers it, even if its time is long past, and renews for it the saying 'Indeed we belong to God and to Him we return,' but God gives him a reward like the day he was afflicted with it." Reported by Imām Aḥmad and Ibn Mājah.
