The caliphate of Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān
مَنْ تُوُفِّيَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ مِنَ الْأَكَابِرِ أم حرام بنت ملحان أُمُّ حَرَامِ بِنْتُ مِلْحَانَ ، أُخْتُ أُمُّ سُلَيْمٍ: أَسْلَمَتْ وَبَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ، وَكَانَ ﷺ يَقِيلُ فِي بَيْتِهَا. وعَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَرَامٍ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ: بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَائِلًا فِي بَيْتِي اسْتَيْقَظَ وَهُوَ يَضْحَكُ، فَقُلْتُ: بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي مَا يُضْحِكُكَ ؟ قَالَ: "عُرِضَ عَلَيَّ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَرْكَبُونَ ظَهْرَ هَذَا الْبَحْرِ كَالْمُلُوكِ عَلَى الْأَسِرَّةِ " فَقُلْتُ: ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ: "اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا مِنْهُمْ ". ثُمَّ نَامَ فَاسْتَيْقَظَ وَهُوَ يَضْحَكُ، فَقُلْتُ: بِأَبِي وَأُمِّي مَا يُضْحِكُكَ، قَالَ: عُرِضَ عَلَيَّ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يَرْكَبُونَ هَذَا الْبَحْرَ كَالْمُلُوكِ عَلَى الْأَسِرَّةِ، فَقُلْتُ: ادْعُ اللَّهَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ: "أَنْتِ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ ". فَغَزَتْ مَعَ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ وَكَانَ زَوْجُهَا عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ فَوَقَصَتْهَا بَغْلَةٌ لَهَا شَهْبَاءُ فَوَقَعَتْ فَمَاتَتْ. قَالَ هَرَمُ بْنُ عَمَّارٍ: أَنَا رَأَيْتُ قَبْرَهَا وَوَقَفْتُ عَلَيْهِ بِالسَّاحِلِ بِفَاقِيسَ. وَقَالَ هِشَامُ بْنُ الْغَارِ: قَبْرُهَا بِقُبْرُصَ، وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: هَذَا قَبْرُ الْمَرْأَةِ الصَّالِحَةِ. جويرية بنت الحارث وَفِي هَذِهِ [ السَّنَةِ ] مَاتَتْ جُوَيْرِيَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ.
Translation
✧ Those of the notables who died in this year Umm Ḥarām bt. Milḥān, the sister of Umm Sulaym: She embraced Islam and gave allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he ﷺ used to take a midday nap in her house. On the authority of Anas, from Umm Ḥarām, that she said: While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taking a midday nap in my house, he woke up laughing. I said, “May my father and mother be your ransom, what makes you laugh?” He said, “Some people of my community were shown to me riding on the surface of this sea like kings on thrones.” I said, “Supplicate Allah to make me one of them.” He said, “O Allah, make her one of them.” Then he slept and woke up laughing. I said, “May my father and mother be your ransom, what makes you laugh?” He said, “Some people of my community were shown to me riding on this sea like kings on thrones.” I said, “Supplicate Allah to make me one of them.” He said, “You are among the first ones.” She went on a military expedition with ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit, and her husband was ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit. A gray mule of hers threw her and she fell and died. Haram b. ʿAmmār said: I myself saw her grave and stood by it on the coast at Fāqīs. Hishām b. al-Ghār said: Her grave is in Cyprus, and they say, “This is the grave of the righteous woman.” Juwayriyah bt. al-Ḥārith In this [year] Juwayriyah bt. al-Ḥārith, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, died.
