The story of Moses the one who spoke with Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)

Translation

✧ Among the events is Moses's ﷺ killing of ʿŪj b. ʿAnāq. Then Moses met ʿŪj b. ʿAnāq. Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṭabarī related that ʿŪj lived a thousand years, and that he met Moses, and Moses struck ʿŪj's ankle and killed him. ʿAnāq is the name of his father. Wahb b. Munabbih said: Rather it is the name of his mother, and she was one of the daughters of Adam. He said: ʿŪj was born in the time of Adam, and he was a tyrant of indescribable size, and his age was three thousand six hundred years until he reached the time of Moses. The water at the time of the flood reached his waist, and he would take a fish from the sea with his hand and raise it into the air, and it would seethe in the heat of the sun, then he would eat it. The cause of his destruction was that he cut a stone from a mountain and brought it on his head to overturn it upon Moses's camp. Then Allah sent a bird that pecked at the stone, and it descended upon his neck. Then Moses came and struck him with the staff on his ankle and killed him. It was said that ʿŪj b. ʿUnuq went out from the tyrants against the Children of Israel to destroy them, and his height was three thousand three hundred and thirty-three cubits and a third of a cubit. Thus al-Baghawī and others mentioned it, but it is not authentic, as we have already explained in connection with his ﷺ saying: Allah created Adam, his height being sixty cubits, then creation has not ceased to diminish until now. They said: ʿŪj then went to the summit of a mountain, uprooted it, and took it with his hands to cast it upon Moses's army. Then a bird came and pecked at that rock, piercing it, so that it became a collar around the neck of ʿŪj b. ʿUnuq. Then Moses went to him and leapt into the air ten cubits, his own height being ten cubits, and in his hand was his staff, its length ten cubits, and he reached the ankle of his foot and killed him. This is related from Nawf al-Bikālī, and Ibn Jarīr transmitted it from Ibn ʿAbbās, but there is something questionable in its chain to him. Then, with all this, it is from the Israelite traditions, and all of these are fabrications of the ignorant among the Children of Israel, for false reports have multiplied among them, and they cannot distinguish between the sound and the false.
