The caliphate of ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib

Translation

✧ His carrying the gate of Khaybar is among his miracles ؓ It is established in the two Ṣaḥīḥs: (that he ﷺ gave him the banner on the day of Khaybar, and informed that the conquest would be at his hands) And his circumstances in courage, and his traces in the wars are well known. Jābir b. ʿAbd Allāh said: (ʿAlī carried the gate on his back on the day of Khaybar until the Muslims climbed upon it and opened it, and indeed they dragged it after that, and none could carry it except forty men) On the authority of Abū Rāfiʿ,: (that ʿAlī took hold of a gate near the fortress, the fortress of Khaybar, and shielded himself with it, and it remained in his hand while he fought until Allah granted us victory, then he threw it away. I saw us, eight men, striving to turn over that gate, and we were not able to turn it over). And among his miracles ؓ Abū Nuʿaym narrated in al-Dalāʾil from Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, from his father, who said: (Two men presented a dispute to ʿAlī, and he sat at the base of a wall. A man said to him: The wall is falling?! ʿAlī said: Go on, Allah suffices as a guardian. He judged between them, then he stood up, and the wall fell). And in al-Ṭuyūriyyāt with its chain to Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad, from his father, who said: A man said to ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib: We hear you say in the sermon: O Allah, set us right as You set right the rightly guided, divinely guided caliphs. Who are they? His eyes brimmed with tears, and he said: (They are my two beloved ones: Abū Bakr and ʿUmar, the two imams of guidance, the two elders of Islam, the two men of Quraysh, and the ones to be followed after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ; whoever follows them is protected, and whoever follows their traces is guided to the straight path, and whoever holds fast to them is of the party of Allah). And ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated from Ḥujr al-Madarī, who said: (ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib said to me: How will you be when you are commanded to curse me? I said: Will that happen?! He said: Yes. I said: Then what should I do? He said: Curse me, but do not disavow me. He said: Then Muḥammad b. Yūsuf, the brother of al-Ḥajjāj, who was governor over Yemen, commanded me to curse ʿAlī. I said: The governor has commanded me to curse ʿAlī, so curse him, may Allah curse him. No one understood it except one man). And al-Ṭabarānī narrated in al-Awsaṭ and Abū Nuʿaym in al-Dalāʾil from Zādhān: (that ʿAlī related a ḥadīth and a man called him a liar. ʿAlī said to him: Shall I supplicate against you if you are lying? He said: Supplicate. So he supplicated against him, and he did not leave until his sight was gone).
