Translation

✧ Mention of several events In this year—that is, the year thirty-five—Constantine b. Heraclius sailed with a thousand ships, intending [to attack] the land of the Muslims (before the killing of ʿUthmān). Then God sent upon them a violent wind and drowned them. Constantine escaped and came to Sicily, where they built a bath for him. He entered it and they killed him in it, saying, "You killed our men." Thus said Abū Jaʿfar. This Constantine is the one whom the Muslims defeated in the Battle of the Masts in the year thirty-one, and whom the people of Sicily killed in the bath. Although they have differed concerning the year in which the battle occurred, were it not for his statement that the ships were drowned, this incident would be that one, for according to some of them, it was in the year thirty-five.
