The caliphate of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb
Translation
✧ The Conquest of Kirmān at the Hands of Suhayl b. ʿAdī Then Suhayl b. ʿAdī made for Kirmān, and ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿItbān also joined him. The people of Kirmān mustered against them and sought help against them from the Qufṣ. They fought in the nearer parts of their land, and God—Exalted is He—routed the polytheists, and the Muslims seized the road against them. Al-Nusayr b. ʿAmr al-ʿIjlī killed their marzbān, and Suhayl entered from the direction of the road of the villages—today—to Jīraft, while ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd Allāh came from the desert of Sīr. They obtained what they desired of camels and sheep, and they valued the camels and the sheep, then apportioned them among themselves by prices, because of the great size of the Bukhtī camels over the ʿIrāb camels, and they disliked to add more. They wrote to ʿUmar about that, and he answered them: "If you see that there is superiority in the Bukhtī camels, then add more." It is also said: The one who conquered Kirmān was ʿAbd Allāh b. Budayl b. Warqāʾ al-Khuzāʿī during the caliphate of ʿUmar. Then he came to al-Ṭabasayn from Kirmān, then he went to ʿUmar and said: "Grant me al-Ṭabasayn as a fief." ʿUmar wanted to do so, but it was said: "They are two districts," so ʿUmar refrained from that.
