The wives of the Prophet, blessings and peace of Allah be upon him, and ᴿᴬ
[ زَوَاجُهُ بِمَيْمُونَةَ ] وَتَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ حَزْنِ بْنِ بُجَيْرِ بْنِ الْهُزَمِ بْنِ رُوَيْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِلَالِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ وكَانَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ قَبْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَحْتَ أَبِي رُهْمٍ بِضَمِّ الرَّاءِ، وَسُكُونِ الْهَاءِ، ابْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى الْقُرَشِيِّ الْقَامِرِّيِّ مِنْ بَنِي مَالِكِ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، فَوَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَقِيلَ: كَانَتْ عِنْدَ غَيْرِهِ. وَرُوِيَ أَيْضًا عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ: تَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ حِينَ اعْتَمَرَ بِمَكَّةَ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَفِيهَا نَزَلَتْ وَامْرَأَةً مُؤْمِنَةً إِنْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ إِنْ أَرَادَ النَّبِيُّ أَنْ يَسْتَنْكِحَهَا خَالِصَةً لَكَ مِنْ دُونِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ [الْأَحْزَابِ 50 ]، ثُمَّ سَافَرَتْ مَعَهُ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ فَرْوَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ أَسَدِ بْنِ غُنْمِ بْنِ دُودَانَ. وَرُوِيَ أَيْضًا عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ: لَمَّا فَرَغَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ خَيْبَرَ، تَوَجَّهَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ مُعْتَمِرًا سَنَةَ سَبْعٍ وَقَدِمَ عَلَيْهِ جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنَ الْحَبَشَةِ، فَخَطَبَ عَلَيْهِ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ الْهِلَالِيَّةَ، وَكَانَتْ أُخْتُهَا لِأُمِّهَا أَسْمَاءُ بِنْتُ عُمَيْسٍ عِنْدَ جَعْفَرٍ، فَأَجَابَتْ جَعْفَرًا إِلَى تَزْوِيجِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - ﷺ وَجَعَلَ أَمْرَهَا إِلَى الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَأَنْكَحَهَا الْعَبَّاسُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ فِي عُمْرَةِ الْقَضِيَّةِ سَنَةَ ثَمَانٍ فَلَمَّا رَجَعَ بَنَى بِهَا بِسَرِفٍ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ أَبِي رُهْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ، وَيُقَالُ: عِنْدَ سَخْبَرَةَ بْنِ أَبِي رُهْمٍ. وَرُوِيَ أَيْضًا عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَزَوَّجَ مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ فِي عُمْرَةِ الْقَضَاءِ وَأَقَامَ بِمَكَّةَ، وَأَقَامَ ثَلَاثًا فَأَتَاهُ حُوَيْطِبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى وَأَسْلَمَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ فِي نَفَرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ فِي الْيَوْمِ الثَّالِثِ، فَقَالُوا لَهُ: انْقَضَى أَجْلُكَ، فَاخْرُجْ عَنَّا، فَقَالَ: وَمَا عَلَيْكُمْ لَوْ تَرَكْتُمُونِي فَأَعْرَسْتُ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِكُمْ فَصَنَعْتُ لَكُمْ طَعَامًا فَحَضَرْتُمُوهُ، فَقَالُوا: لَا حَاجَةَ لَنَا فِي طَعَامِكَ فَاخْرُجْ عَنَّا، فَخَرَجَ [... ] مَيْمُونَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ حَتَّى أَعْرَسَ بِهَا بِسَرِفٍ. وَرَوَى ابْنُ أَبِي خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ: تَزَوَّجَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ حَلَالَانِ بِسَرِفٍ. وَرَوَى السِّتَّةُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَزَوَّجَ مَيْمُونَةَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ، وَرَوَى ابْنُ أَبِي خَيْثَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ مَعْمَرِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى - رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى - قَالَ: تَزَوَّجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَيْمُونَةَ سَنَةَ خَمْسٍ، قَالَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ: هِيَ آخِرُ امْرَأَةٍ تَزَوَّجَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعْنِي مِمَّنْ دَخَلَ بِهَا. وَرَوَى الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي - الْأَوْسَطِ - بِرِجَالِ الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَزَوَّجَ مَيْمُونَةَ بِسَرِفٍ وَبَنَى بِهَا بِسَرِفٍ، وَمَاتَتْ بِسَرِفٍ. زَوَّجَهُ إيَّاهَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَأَصْدَقَهَا الْعَبَّاسُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْبَعَ مِئَةِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ أَبِي رُهْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ وُدِّ بْنِ نَصْرِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ حِسْلِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ؛ وَيُقَالُ: إنَّهَا الَّتِي وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ خِطْبَةَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ انْتَهَتْ إلَيْهَا وَهِيَ عَلَى بَعِيرِهَا، فَقَالَتْ: الْبَعِيرُ وَمَا عَلَيْهِ لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: وَامْرَأَةً مُؤْمِنَةً إِنْ وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ وَيُقَالُ: إنَّ الَّتِي وَهَبَتْ نَفْسَهَا لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ زَيْنَبُ بِنْتُ جَحْشٍ، وَيُقَالُ أُمُّ شَرِيكٍ، غَزِيَّةُ بِنْتُ جَابِرِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ مِنْ بَنِي مُنْقِذِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَعِيصِ بْنِ عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ، وَيُقَالُ: بَلْ هِيَ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ بَنِي سَامَةَ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ، فَأَرْجَأَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ.
Translation
✧ [ His marriage to Maymūnah ] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith b. Ḥazn b. Bujayr b. al-Huzam b. Ruwaybah b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Hilāl b. ʿĀmir b. Ṣaʿṣaʿah. Maymūnah was, before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, under Abū Ruhm, with ḍammah on the rāʾ and sukūn on the hāʾ, b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā al-Qurashī al-Qāmirrī, of Banū Mālik b. Ḥanbal, and she gave herself to the Prophet ﷺ; and it is said: she was with another. And it is also narrated from Qatādah who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married, when he performed ʿumrah in Makkah, Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith. She gave herself to the Prophet ﷺ, and concerning her the verse was revealed: 'and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet desires to marry her, [this is] exclusively for you rather than the believers' [al-Aḥzāb 50]. Then she traveled with him to Madinah, and before him she had been with Farwah b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Asad b. Ghunm b. Dūdān. And it is also narrated from Abū ʿUbaydah Maʿmar b. al-Muthannā who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished with Khaybar, he set out to Makkah for ʿumrah in the year seven. Jaʿfar b. Abī Ṭālib came to him from Abyssinia and proposed to him Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith al-Hilāliyyah. Her maternal sister Asmāʾ bt. ʿUmays was with Jaʿfar, and she responded to Jaʿfar regarding the marriage of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She placed her affair with al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, so al-ʿAbbās married her to the Prophet ﷺ while he was in iḥrām during the ʿumrah of the treaty in the year eight. When he returned, he consummated the marriage with her at Sarif. Before him she had been with Abū Ruhm b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy; and it is said: with Sakhbarah b. Abī Ruhm. And it is also narrated from him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith during the ʿumrah of the treaty and stayed in Makkah three days. Ḥuwayṭib b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā came to him, and he accepted Islam after that, with a group of Quraysh on the third day, and they said to him: Your term is over, so depart from us. He said: What harm would it do you if you left me so that I could hold a wedding feast among you and prepare food for you that you might attend? They said: We have no need of your food; depart from us. So he departed [... ] Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith until he consummated the marriage with her at Sarif. Ibn Abī Khaythamah narrated from Maymūnah ؓ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married me while we were both in the state of iḥlāl at Sarif. The six narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymūnah while he was in iḥrām. Ibn Abī Khaythamah narrated from Abū ʿUbaydah Maʿmar b. al-Muthannā, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymūnah in the year five. Ibn Saʿd said: She is the last woman whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married, meaning among those with whom he consummated. Al-Ṭabarānī narrated in al-Awsaṭ with the men of the Ṣaḥīḥ from Anas ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymūnah at Sarif and consummated the marriage with her at Sarif, and she died at Sarif. Al-ʿAbbās b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib married her to him, and al-ʿAbbās gave as her dowry on behalf of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ four hundred dirhams. Before him she had been with Abū Ruhm b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Abī Qays b. ʿAbd Wudd b. Naṣr b. Mālik b. Ḥisl b. ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy; and it is said that she was the one who gave herself to the Prophet ﷺ, and that was because the proposal of the Prophet ﷺ reached her while she was on her camel, and she said: The camel and what is on it are for Allah and His Messenger, so Allah, blessed and exalted, revealed: 'and a believing woman if she gives herself to the Prophet.' And it is said that the one who gave herself to the Prophet ﷺ was Zaynab bt. Jaḥsh; and it is said Umm Sharīk, Ghaziyyah bt. Jābir b. Wahb, of Banū Munqidh b. ʿAmr b. Maʿīṣ b. ʿĀmir b. Luʾayy; and it is said: rather she was a woman of Banū Sāmah b. Luʾayy, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ deferred her.
