Translation

✧ Summary of the story of Allah's prophet Job ﷺ He is Allah's prophet Job b. Mūṣā b. Razāḥ b. al-ʿĪṣ b. Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm al-Khalīl. Other opinions were given regarding his lineage. It was said that he lived in the time of Jacob ﷺ and his wife was the daughter of Jacob ﷺ. Among what is related from him ﷺ is that when he wanted something he would prostrate and then ask for it. He ﷺ was a man of wealth and Allah had provided him good provision and good offspring. Iblīs asked Allah, glorified be He, to give him power over him, claiming that he could tempt him. So he was given power over him, and he was tested in his wealth, his children, and his body. He became nothing but bone and sinew, unable to do anything. People shunned him, and none remained with him except his wife, who was forced to work to spend on him. This only increased him in certainty in Allah and patience, until his patience became proverbial. There was disagreement over how long the period of his affliction was. Then Allah, exalted be He, honored him with that which His creation marvels at: He restored to him his wealth and his family and their like with them, and He restored to him his body better than it had been. Job had sworn to strike his wife, and there was disagreement over the reason for that. Allah, glorified be He, commanded him to take a bundle, gathering together sticks equal in number to what he had sworn to strike her with, and strike her with it once, so that it would be an expiation for his oath. Job ﷺ died at the age of ninety-three years, and it was said: more than that.
