Translation
✧ His ﷺ presenting the Qur’an to Jibrīl (peace and blessings be upon him) twice in the year in which he died, and his ﷺ announcing his own death to his Companions Imām Aḥmad and Ibn Saʿd narrated from Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to present the Qur’an to Jibrīl every Ramaḍān, and in the year in which he died he presented it to him twice. Al-Bukhārī narrated from Abū Hurayrah ؓ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe iʿtikāf for ten days every Ramaḍān, and in the year in which he died he observed iʿtikāf for twenty days. Jibrīl used to recite the Qur’an to him once every Ramaḍān, and in the year in which he died he presented it to him twice. Al-Shaykhān narrated from Fāṭimah al-Zahrāʾ ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ confided to her, saying: “Jibrīl used to review the Qur’an with me once every year, and he reviewed it with me twice this year. I do not think my term is anything but near, so fear Allah and be patient, for I am the best predecessor for you.” Muslim narrated from Jābir ؓ who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throwing the jamarāt, then he stopped and said: “Take your rituals from me, for perhaps I will not perform Hajj after this year of mine.” Ibn Mardawayh narrated from Muʿāwiyah b. Abī Sufyān, and Imām Aḥmad, Ibn Saʿd, Abū Yaʿlā, and al-Ṭabarānī with a sound chain from Wāthilah b. al-Asqaʿ ؓ; they said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us and said: “Do you claim that I am the last of you to die?” We said: “Yes.” He said: “I am the first of you to die, and you will follow me in scattered groups, destroying one another.” Ibn Saʿd narrated from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī ؓ who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I am about to be summoned and will answer. I am leaving among you the two weighty things: the Book of Allah and my ʿitrah. The Book of Allah is a rope stretched from heaven to earth, and my ʿitrah are the people of my household. The Subtle, the All-Aware has informed me that they will not separate until they return to me at the Pond, so watch how you succeed me in them.” Ibn Saʿd narrated from ʿIkrimah as a mursal report: Al-ʿAbbās said: I will surely know how long the Messenger of Allah ﷺ will remain among us. He said to him: O Messenger of Allah, if only you would take a throne, for the people have crowded around you. He said: “By Allah, I will not cease to be among them while they contend with me for my cloak and their dust reaches me until Allah grants me rest from them!” Al-ʿAbbās said: Then we knew that the remaining time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ among us was little. Al-Bazzār narrated from al-ʿAbbās ؓ who said: I saw in a dream as if the earth was being pulled up to the sky with strong ropes. I related that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: “That is the death of your nephew.”
