The messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his correspondence to the kings and the like
إِرْسَالِهِ ﷺ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ مَعَ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ ؓ إِلَى أُكَيْدِرَ قَالَ عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ الْحَلَبِيُّ فِي الْوُفُودِ: وَفَدَ وَاثِلَةُ بْنُ الْأَسْقَعِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَتَجَهَّزُ إِلَى تَبُوكَ، فَأَسْلَمَ وَبَايَعَ وَرَجَعَ إِلَى أَهْلِهِ فَأَخْبَرَهُمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُوهُ: لَا أُكَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَةً أَبَدًا! وَسَمِعَتْ أُخْتُهُ كَلَامَهُ فَأَسْلَمَتْ وَجَهَّزَتْهُ، فَرَجَعَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَوَجَدَهُ قَدْ سَارَ إِلَى تَبُوكَ، فَقَالَ: مَنْ يَحْمِلُنِي عَقِبَهُ وَلَهُ سَهْمِي ؟ فَحَمَلَهُ كَعْبُ بْنُ عُجْرَةَ حَتَّى لَحِقَ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَشَهِدَ مَعَهُ تَبُوكَ. وَبَعَثَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَعَ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ إِلَى أُكَيْدِرَ فَغَنِمَ، فَجَاءَ بِسَهْمِهِ إِلَى كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَقْبَلَهُ وَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا حَمَلْتُكَ لِلَّهِ ].
Translation
✧ His ﷺ sending Wāthila b. al-Asqaʿ with Khālid b. al-Walīd ؓ to Ukaydir ʿAbd al-Karīm al-Ḥalabī said in al-Wufūd: Wāthila b. al-Asqaʿ came as a delegate to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was preparing to go to Tabūk, so he embraced Islam, pledged allegiance, and returned to his family and informed them. His father said to him: “I will never speak a single word to you!” His sister heard his words, so she embraced Islam and equipped him. He returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found that he had already set out toward Tabūk. He said: “Who will carry me on his heels, and he shall have my share?” Kaʿb b. ʿUjra carried him until he caught up with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he witnessed Tabūk with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him with Khālid b. al-Walīd to Ukaydir, and he obtained booty. He came with his share to Kaʿb b. ʿUjra, who refused to accept it and said: “I carried you only for Allah.”
