The messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his correspondence to the kings and the like
إِرْسَالِهِ ﷺ مَالِكَ بْنَ مُرَارَةَ مَعَ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ ؓ إِلَى الْيَمَنِ قَالَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ: (قَالُوا ): وَكَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ كِتَابًا يُخْبِرُهُمْ فِيهِ بِشَرَائِعِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَفَرَائِضِ الصَّدَقَةِ مِنَ الْمَوَاشِي وَالْأَمْوَالِ وَيُوصِيهِمْ بِأَصْحَابِهِ وَرُسُلِهِ خَيْرًا، وَكَانَ رَسُولُهُ إِلَيْهِمْ مُعَاذَ ابْنَ جَبَلٍ وَمَالِكَ بْنَ مُرَارَةَ، وَيُخْبِرُهُمْ بِوُصُولِ رَسُولِهِ إِلَيْهِمْ وَمَا بَلَغَ عَنْهُمْ، قَالُوا: وَكَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى عِدَّةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ سَمَّاهُمْ، مِنْهُمُ الْحَارِثُ بْنُ عَبْدِ كُلَالٍ، وَشُرَيْحُ بْنُ عَبْدِ كُلَالٍ، وَنُعَيْمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ كُلَالٍ وَنُعْمَانُ، قِيلَ: ذِي يَزَنَ وَمُعَافِرُ وَهَمْذَانُ وَزُرْعَةُ ذِي رُعَيْنٍ، وَكَانَ قَدْ أَسْلَمَ مِنْ أَوَّلِ حِمْيَرَ، وَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَجْمَعُوا الصَّدَقَةَ وَالْجِزْيَةَ فَيَدْفَعُوهَا إِلَى مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَمَالِكِ [بْنِ مُرَارَةَ، وَأَمَرَهُمْ بِهِمَا خَيْرًا، وَكَانَ مَالِكُ بْنُ مُرَارَةَ رَسُولَ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِإِسْلَامِهِمْ وَطَاعَتِهِمْ، وَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّ مَالِكَ بْنَ مُرَارَةَ ] قَدْ بَلَّغَ الْخَبَرَ وَحَفِظَ الْغَيْبَ قَالُوا: وَكَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى بَنِي مُعَاوِيَةَ مِنْ كِنْدَةَ بِمِثْلِ ذَلِكَ.
Translation
✧ His ﷺ sending Mālik b. Murārah with Muʿādh b. Jabal ؓ to Yemen Ibn Saʿd said: (They said): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote a document informing them of the laws of Islam and the obligatory alms on livestock and wealth, and enjoining them to treat his companions and messengers well. His messenger to them was Muʿādh b. Jabal and Mālik b. Murārah. He informed them of the arrival of his messenger to them and what he had conveyed from them. They said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to several people of Yemen whom he named, among them al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd Kulāl, Shurayḥ b. ʿAbd Kulāl, Nuʿaym b. ʿAbd Kulāl, and Nuʿmān—it was said: Dhū Yazan—and Muʿāfir, Hamdān, and Zurʿah Dhū Ruʿayn, who had been among the first of Ḥimyar to embrace Islam. He commanded them to collect the alms and the jizyah and hand them over to Muʿādh b. Jabal and Mālik [b. Murārah, and he enjoined them to treat the two well. Mālik b. Murārah had been the messenger of the people of Yemen to the Prophet ﷺ with their Islam and obedience. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to them that Mālik b. Murārah] had conveyed the news and kept the secret. They said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to Banū Muʿāwiyah of Kindah the like of that.
