Chapter mentioning the offspring of Abraham (peace and blessings be upon him)
Translation
✧ Then the king—he was al-Rayyān b. al-Walīd b. al-Harawān b. Arāshah b. Fārān b. ʿAmr b. ʿImlāq b. Lāwudh b. Sām b. Nūḥ—saw a terrifying dream. He saw seven fat cows being eaten by seven lean ones, and he saw seven green ears of grain and others dry. So he gathered the sorcerers, the soothsayers, the diviners, and the augurs, and related it to them. They said: "Confused dreams" [12:44]. Then the one of the two young men who had been saved—he was the cupbearer—and he remembered [12:45], that is, he recalled Yūsuf's matter, said: "I will inform you of its interpretation, so send me" [12:45]. So they sent him, and he came to Yūsuf and related the dream to him. He said: "You will sow for seven years as usual. Then whatever you harvest, leave it in its ear, except a little of which you eat. Then after that will come seven severe [years] that will consume what you have stored for them, except a little of what you keep. Then after that will come a year in which the people will be given rain and in which they will press [grapes and olives]." For the fat cows were the fertile years, the lean cows the barren years, and likewise the green and dry ears. So the cupbearer returned to the king and told him, and he knew that Yūsuf's statement was true. He said: "Bring him to me." When the messenger came to him and summoned him to the king, he did not go out with him, but said: "Return to your lord and ask him about the case of the women who cut their hands." When the messenger returned from Yūsuf, the king asked those women, and they said: "God forbid! We know no evil against him." But the wife of al-ʿAzīz told us that she had sought to seduce him. The wife of al-ʿAzīz said: "I sought to seduce him." Then Yūsuf said: "I only sent back the messengers so that my lord may know that I did not betray him in secret regarding his wife." When he said that, Gabriel said to him: "Not even when you desired her?" Yūsuf said: "I do not absolve myself. Indeed, the soul is ever inclined to evil."
