Chapter mentioning the offspring of Abraham (peace and blessings be upon him)

Translation

✧ When Joseph was imprisoned, two young men from the people of the Pharaoh of Egypt were admitted with him to the prison. One of them was in charge of his food, and the other in charge of his drink, because it was reported about them that they intended to poison the king. When Joseph entered the prison, he said: “I interpret dreams.” One of the two young men said to the other: “Come, let us test him.” The baker said: “I saw myself carrying bread above my head, from which birds were eating.” And the other said: “I saw myself pressing wine.” Joseph said to them: “No food provided for you will come to you but I will inform you of its interpretation before it comes to you.” He disliked interpreting for them what they asked about, and he turned to something else and said: “Are diverse lords better, or God, the One, the All-Compelling?” The baker’s name was Makhlata, and the other’s was Nabwā. They did not leave him alone until he informed them of the interpretation of what they asked about. He said: “As for one of you”—and that was the one who saw himself pressing wine—“he will give his lord wine to drink,” meaning his master the king. “As for the other, he will be crucified, and birds will eat from his head.” When he interpreted for them, they said: “We did not see anything!” He said: “The matter about which you were asking is decreed.” Then he said to Nabwā, who was the one he thought would be saved of the two: “Mention me in the presence of your lord,” the king, “and tell him that I am imprisoned unjustly.” But Satan made him forget to mention him to his lord—a heedlessness that occurred to Joseph from Satan. Then God revealed to him: “O Joseph, you have taken a guardian besides Me! I will surely prolong your imprisonment.” So he remained in prison for seven years.
