The messengers of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his correspondence to the kings and the like
إِرْسَالِهِ ﷺ السَّائِبَ بْنَ الْعَوَّامِ ؓ إِلَى مُسَيْلِمَةَ الْكَذَّابِ قَالَ ابْنُ سَعْدٍ: قَالُوا: وَكَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِلَى مُسَيْلِمَةَ الْكَذَّابِ يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، وَبَعَثَ بِهِ مَعَ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيِّ، فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ مُسَيْلِمَةُ جَوَابَ كِتَابِهِ وَيَذْكُرُ فِيهِ أَنَّهُ نَبِيٌّ مِثْلُهُ وَيَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُقَاسِمَهُ الْأَرْضَ وَيَذْكُرُ أَنَّ قُرَيْشًا قَوْمٌ لَا يَعْدِلُونَ، فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ: الْعَنُوهُ لَعَنَهُ اللَّهُ، وَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ بَلَغَنِي كِتَابُكَ الْكَذِبُ وَالْإِفْكُ وَالِافْتِرَاءُ عَلَى اللَّهِ، وَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ لِلَّهِ يُورِثُهَا مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ، وَالْعَاقبة لِلْمُتَّقِينَ، وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى. قَالَ: وَبَعَثَ بِهِ مَعَ السَّائِبِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ أَخِي الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ.
Translation
✧ His ﷺ sending al-Sāʾib b. al-ʿAwwām ؓ to Musaylimah the Liar Ibn Saʿd said: They said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to Musaylimah the Liar, calling him to Islam, and sent it with ʿAmr b. Umayyah al-Ḍamrī. Musaylimah wrote back to him a reply to his letter, mentioning that he was a prophet like him, asking him to share the earth with him, and mentioning that Quraysh were a people who did not act justly. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wrote to him and said: Curse him, may Allah curse him. He wrote to him: Your lying, false, and fabricated letter against Allah has reached me. The earth belongs to Allah; He gives it as inheritance to whomever He wills of His servants, and the end is for the righteous. Peace be upon him who follows guidance. He said: He sent it with al-Sāʾib b. al-ʿAwwām, the brother of al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām.
