Translation
✧ (The Prophet’s ﷺ encampment at al-Abṭaḥ east of Makkah) Then he (may the blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) departed, after he had finished his circumambulation between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah and his command to those who had not brought the sacrificial animal to break the state of iḥrām, with the people accompanying him, until he encamped at al-Abṭaḥ east of Makkah in a red leather tent that was pitched for him there. He stayed there for the rest of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, until he prayed the dawn prayer on Thursday, all the while praying with his companions there, and he did not return to the Kaʿbah during all those days. Al-Bukhārī said: Chapter on one who does not approach the Kaʿbah or perform ṭawāf until he goes out to ʿArafah and returns after the first ṭawāf. Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr narrated to us; Fuḍayl b. Sulaymān narrated to us; Mūsā b. ʿUqbah narrated to us, saying: Kurayb informed me, from ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās, who said: The Prophet ﷺ came to Makkah and performed seven rounds, and walked between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah, and did not approach the Kaʿbah after his ṭawāf of it until he returned from ʿArafah. Al-Bukhārī alone transmitted it. Aḥmad said: Wakīʿ narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAwn b. Abī Juḥayfah, from his father, who said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ at al-Abṭaḥ while he was in a red tent of his. Bilāl came out with the leftover water of his ablution, and some people got some of it and others sprinkled it on themselves. He said: Then Bilāl gave the call to prayer, and I began to follow his mouth this way and that way—meaning to the right and left. He said: Then I planted a short spear for him, and the Prophet ﷺ came out wearing a red cloak of his—or a red ḥullah—and it is as if I can see the glint of his shins. He led us in prayer facing the short spear, the noon prayer—or the afternoon prayer—two rakʿahs, while a woman, a dog, and a donkey passed by, and he did not prevent them. Then he continued to pray two rakʿahs until he came to al-Madīnah. Wakīʿ said on one occasion: He prayed the noon prayer two rakʿahs and the afternoon prayer two rakʿahs. And from al-Ḥakam: I heard Abū Juḥayfah say: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out at midday to al-Baṭḥāʾ, performed ablution, and prayed the noon prayer two rakʿahs with a short spear in front of him. ʿAwn added in it, from his father Abū Juḥayfah: A donkey and a woman would pass from behind it. Ḥajjāj said in the ḥadīth: Then the people stood and began to take his hand and wipe their faces with it. He said: I took his hand and placed it on my face, and it was cooler than snow and more fragrant than musk. The authors of the two Ṣaḥīḥs transmitted it in full from the ḥadīth of Shuʿbah.
