Mention of Year Nine and Its Designation as the Year of Delegations
فِي وُفُودِ بَنِي كِلَابٍ إِلَيْهِ ﷺ رَوَى ابْنُ سَعْدٍ فِي الطَّبَقَاتِ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ: قَدِمَ وَفْدُ بَنِي كِلَابٍ فِي سَنَةِ تِسْعٍ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ، وَهُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ عَشَرَ رَجُلًا فِيهِمْ لَبِيدُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ، وَجَبَّارُ بْنُ سُلْمَى فَأَنْزَلَهُمْ دَارَ رَمْلَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَدَثِ، وَكَانَ بَيْنَ جَبَّارٍ وَكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ خُلَّةٌ، فَبَلَغَ كَعْبًا قُدُومُهُمْ فَرَحَّبَ بِهِمْ وَأَهْدَى لِجَبَّارٍ وَأَكْرَمَهُ، وَخَرَجُوا مَعَ كَعْبٍ فَدَخَلُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَلَّمُوا عَلَيْهِ بِسَلَامِ الْإِسْلَامِ، وَقَالُوا: إِنَّ الضَّحَّاكَ بْنَ سُفْيَانَ سَارَ فِينَا بِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَبِسُنَّتِكَ الَّتِي أَمَرْتَ بِهَا، وَإِنَّهُ دَعَانَا إِلَى اللَّهِ فَاسْتَجَبْنَا لِلَّهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَإِنَّهُ أَخَذَ الصَّدَقَةَ مِنْ أَغْنِيَائِنَا فَرَدَّهَا عَلَى فُقَرَائِنَا.
Translation
✧ On the delegations of Banū Kilāb to him ﷺ Ibn Saʿd narrated in al-Ṭabaqāt on the authority of Khārija b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Kaʿb, who said: The delegation of Banū Kilāb came in the year nine to the Messenger of God ﷺ. They were thirteen men, among them Labīd b. Rabīʿa and Jabbār b. Sulmā. He lodged them in the house of Ramla bt. al-Ḥadath. There was a close friendship between Jabbār and Kaʿb b. Mālik. Kaʿb learned of their arrival, so he welcomed them, gave a gift to Jabbār, and honoured him. They went out with Kaʿb and entered upon the Messenger of God ﷺ, greeted him with the greeting of Islam, and said: 'Al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. Sufyān moved among us with the Book of God and your Sunna which you commanded. He called us to God, so we responded to God and His Messenger. He took the alms from our rich and returned them to our poor.'
