The Expedition of Tabūk
ذِكْرُ إِرْدَافِهِ ﷺ سُهَيْلَ بْنَ بَيْضَاءَ عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ بَيْضَاءَ ؓ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَرْدَفَهُ عَلَى رَحْلِهِ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ ، قَالَ سُهَيْلٌ وَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَوْتَهُ "يَا سُهَيْلُ" كُلُّ ذَلِكَ يَقُولُ سُهَيْلٌ: يَا لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ - ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ - حَتَّى عَرَفَ النَّاسُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُرِيدُهُمْ فَانْثَنَى عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَمَامِهِ وَلَحِقَهُ مِنْ خَلْفِهِ مِنَ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: "مَنْ شَهِدَ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ حَرَّمَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّارِ رَوَاهُ الْإِمَامُ أَحْمَدُ وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ.
Translation
✧ Mention of the Prophet ﷺ seating Suhayl b. Bayḍāʾ behind him From Suhayl b. Bayḍāʾ ؓ that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seated him behind him on his riding camel in the expedition of Tabūk. Suhayl said: And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised his voice, "O Suhayl," and each time Suhayl said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah" — three times — until the people knew that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wanted them, and those in front of him turned back to him and those behind him caught up with him from among the people. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever bears witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, Allah has forbidden him to the Fire." Related by Imām Aḥmad, al-Ṭabarānī, and Muḥammad b. ʿUmar.
