The Conquest of Makkah
Translation
✧ [ The number of Muslims who witnessed the conquest of Makkah ] Ibn Isḥāq said: The total number of Muslims who witnessed the conquest of Makkah was ten thousand. From Banū Sulaym there were seven hundred, though some say one thousand. From Banū Ghifār there were four hundred, and from Aslam four hundred. From Muzaynah there were one thousand and three men. The rest were from Quraysh, the Anṣār and their allies, and groups of Arabs from Tamīm, Qays and Asad. ʿUrwah, al-Zuhrī and Mūsā b. ʿUqbah said: The Muslims on the day of the conquest who were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ numbered twelve thousand. Allah knows best. Ibn Isḥāq affirmed that all who witnessed the conquest of the Muslims were ten thousand. Al-Bukhārī narrated it in his Ṣaḥīḥ from ʿUrwah, and Isḥāq b. Rāhawayh from another route with a sound chain from Ibn ʿAbbās. ʿUrwah also said, as did al-Zuhrī and Ibn ʿUqbah, that they were twelve thousand. The reconciliation is that the ten thousand were those who set out with him from Madinah itself, then two thousand caught up with them.
