The Conquest of Makkah
اسْتِسْلَافِهِ ﷺ مَالًا وَتَفْرِيقِهِ عَلَى الْمُحْتَاجِينَ مِمَّنْ كَانَ مَعَهُ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ قَالَ: أَرْسَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ الْفَتْحِ، فَاسْتَسْلَفَ مِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ، فَأَعْطَاهُ، فَلَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى هَوَازِنَ، وَغَنَّمَهُ أَمْوَالَهَا رَدَّهَا، وَقَالَ: «إِنَّمَا جَزَاءُ السَّلَفِ الْحَمْدُ وَالْأَدَاءُ”، وَقَالَ: «بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ فِي مَالِكَ وَوَلَدِكَ”. وَرَوَى أَيْضًا عَنْ أَبِي حُصَيْنٍ الْهُذَلِيِّ قَالَ: اسْتَقْرَضَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ ثَلَاثَةِ نَفَرٍ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ، مِنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ فَأَقْرَضَهُ. وَمِنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ، وَمِنْ حُوَيْطِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعُزَّى أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ، فَكَانَتْ ثَلَاثِينَ وَمِائَةَ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، فَقَسَّمَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الضَّعْفِ، قَالَ أَبُو حُصَيْنٍ، فَأَخْبَرَنِي رِجَالٌ مِنْ بَنِيَ كِنَانَةَ كَانُوا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الْفَتْحِ أَنَّهُ قَسَّمَ فِيهِمْ دَرَاهِمَ فَيُصِيبُ الرَّجُلُ خَمْسِينَ دِرْهَمًا أَوْ أَقَلَّ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ.
Translation
✧ His ﷺ borrowing money and distributing it among the needy who were with him Muhammad b. ʿUmar narrated from Ibrāhīm b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAbdallāh b. Abī Rabīʿah b. al-Mughīrah al-Makhzūmī, who said: On the day of the conquest, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent and borrowed from ʿAbdallāh b. Abī Rabīʿah b. al-Mughīrah forty thousand dirhams, and he gave it to him. Then when Allah the Exalted conquered Hawāzin and granted him their wealth as spoils, he repaid it and said: “The only recompense for a loan is praise and repayment,” and he said: “May Allah bless you in your wealth and your offspring.” He also narrated from Abū Ḥuṣayn al-Hudhalī, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ borrowed from three men of Quraysh: from Ṣafwān b. Umayyah fifty thousand dirhams, and he lent it to him; from ʿAbdallāh b. Abī Rabīʿah forty thousand dirhams; and from Ḥuwayṭib b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā forty thousand dirhams. That came to one hundred and thirty thousand dirhams, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ divided them among his Companions who were weak. Abū Ḥuṣayn said: Men of Banū Kinānah who were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the conquest informed me that he divided dirhams among them, and a man would receive fifty dirhams, or less, or more than that.
