The Conquest of Makkah
إِسْلَامِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ - ؓ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ قَالَ: لَمَّا دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَكَّةَ، دَخَلْتُ أَنَا وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي رَبِيعَةَ دَارَ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، فَذَكَرَ حَدِيثَ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَجَازَ جِوَارَ أُمِّ هَانِئٍ، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقْنَا، فَأَقَمْنَا يَوْمَيْنِ، ثُمَّ خَرَجْنَا إِلَى مَنَازِلِنَا، فَجَلَسْنَا بِأَفْنِيَتِهَا لَا يَعْرِضُ لَنَا أَحَدٌ، وَكُنَّا نَخَافُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، فَوَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي لَجَالِسٌ فِي مُلَاءَةِ مُوَرَّسَةٍ عَلَى بَابِي مَا شَعَرْتُ إِلَّا بِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَإِذَا مَعَهُ عِدَّةٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَسَلَّمَ وَمَضَى، وَجَعَلْتُ أَسْتَحِي أَنْ يَرَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَذْكُرُ رُؤْيَتَهُ إِيَّايَ فِي كُلِّ مَوْطِنٍ مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ ثُمَّ أَذْكُرُ بِرَّهُ وَرَحْمَتَهُ وَصِلَتَهُ فَأَلْقَاهُ وَهُوَ دَاخِلَ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَلَقِيَنِي بِالْبِشْرِ، فَوَقَفَ حَتَّى جِئْتُهُ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، وَشَهِدْتُ بِشَهَادَةِ الْحَقِّ، فَقَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي هَدَاكَ، مَا كَانَ مِثْلُكَ يَجْهَلُ الْإِسْلَامَ قَالَ الْحَارِثُ: فَوَ اللَّهِ مَا رَأَيْتُ مِثْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ جُهِلَ.
Translation
✧ The Islam of al-Ḥārith b. Hishām — ؓ Muḥammad b. ʿUmar narrated from al-Ḥārith b. Hishām, who said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah, I and ʿAbd Allāh b. Abī Rabīʿah entered the house of Umm Hāniʾ. He mentioned the ḥadīth that the Prophet ﷺ granted Umm Hāniʾ's protection. He said: So we departed and stayed for two days, then we went out to our homes and sat in their courtyards, no one bothering us. We were afraid of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb. By Allah, while I was sitting in a rose-dyed wrap at my door, I was unaware until ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb was there, with a number of Muslims. He greeted and passed on. I became ashamed that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ should see me, and I recalled his seeing me in every place with the polytheists, then I recalled his kindness, mercy, and connection. I met him while he was entering the mosque, and he met me with cheerfulness. He stopped until I came to him and greeted him, and I bore witness with the testimony of truth. He said: 'Praise be to Allah who guided you. Someone like you would not be ignorant of Islam.' Al-Ḥārith said: By Allah, I have not seen the like of Islam being ignored.
