The Conquest of Makkah
إِسْلَامِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ - ؓ رَوَى ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، وَالْإِمَامُ أَحْمَدُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ السَّائِبِ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ شَارَكَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ فِي التِّجَارَةِ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْفَتْحِ أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ: «مَرْحَبًا بِأَخِي وَشَرِيكِي، كَانَ لَا يُدَارِي وَلَا يُمَارِي، يَا سَائِبُ!! قَدْ كُنْتَ تَعْمَلُ أَعْمَالًا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَا تُتَقَبَّلُ مِنْكَ وَهِيَ الْيَوْمَ تُتَقَبَّلُ مِنْكَ” وَكَانَ ذَا سَلَفٍ وَخُلَّةٍ”. وَرَوَى الْإِمَامُ أَحْمَدُ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ السَّائِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ: جِيءَ بِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ فَتْحِ مَكَّةَ فَجَعَلَ عُثْمَانُ وَغَيْرُهُ يُثْنُونَ عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ: «لَا تُعْلِمُونِي بِهِ، كَانَ صَاحِبِي.
Translation
✧ The conversion of al-Sāʾib b. ʿAbd Allāh al-Makhzūmī – ؓ Ibn Abī Shaybah and Imām Aḥmad related from Mujāhid, from al-Sāʾib: that he had been the partner of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before Islam in trade, and when it was the Day of the Conquest he came to him, and he said: “Welcome to my brother and my partner. He used not to dissemble nor to dispute. O Sāʾib!! You used to perform deeds in the Age of Ignorance that were not accepted from you, and today they are accepted from you,” and he was a man of past good deeds and close friendship. Imām Aḥmad related from Mujāhid, from al-Sāʾib b. ʿAbd Allāh, who said: I was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the Day of the Conquest of Makkah, and ʿUthmān and others began to praise me, so the Messenger of Allah said: “Do not inform me about him; he was my companion.”
