The Conquest of Makkah
Translation
✧ [The Anṣār's fear that the Messenger would remain in Makkah and the Messenger's reassurance to them] and his ﷺ awareness of what the Anṣār had said among themselves Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī, Ibn Abī Shaybah, Imām Aḥmad, and Muslim narrated from Abū Hurayrah ؓ that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his circumambulation, he came to al-Ṣafā and climbed it until he could see the House. He raised his hands and began to praise Allah—Exalted is He—and mention Him, and he supplicated as Allah willed him to supplicate. The Anṣār were below him. Some of them said to others: "As for the man, desire for his own town has overtaken him, and compassion for his clan." Abū Hurayrah ؓ said: Then revelation came—and when it came, it was not hidden from us: no one among the people would raise his gaze toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until it was concluded. When the revelation was concluded, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O company of the Anṣār!" They said: "At your service, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "You said: 'As for the man, desire for his own town has overtaken him, and compassion for his clan.'" They said: "We did say that, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "What then shall I be called?! Nay, indeed I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger. I migrated to Allah and to you. The living is your living, and the dying is your dying." So they turned to him weeping, saying: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we did not say what we said except out of stinginess concerning Allah and His Messenger." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Indeed Allah and His Messenger excuse you and believe you."
