Translation

✧ Informing him ﷺ of what happened to Khuzāʿah on the day they were attacked Muḥammad b. ʿUmar — may God Almighty have mercy on him — related that the Messenger of God ﷺ said to ʿĀʾishah on the morning after the battle of Banū Nufāthah and Khuzāʿah at al-Watīr: “O ʿĀʾishah, something has happened to Khuzāʿah.” ʿĀʾishah said: “O Messenger of God, do you think Quraysh would dare to break the pact between you and them, when the sword has destroyed them?” The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “They will break the pact because of something God Almighty intends.” She said: “O Messenger of God, is it good?” He said: “It is good.” Al-Ṭabarānī related in al-Kabīr and al-Ṣaghīr from Maymūnah bt. al-Ḥārith ؓ that the Messenger of God ﷺ spent a night with her. He rose to perform ablution for prayer, and she heard him saying during his ablution: “Labbayka labbayka labbayka” — three times — “you have been helped, you have been helped, you have been helped” — three times. When he came out, I said: “O Messenger of God, I heard you saying during your ablution, ‘Labbayka labbayka labbayka’ — three times — ‘you have been helped, you have been helped’ — three times, as if you were speaking to a person. Was anyone with you?” He said: “That was the poet of Banū Kaʿb calling on me for aid, claiming that Quraysh had assisted Bakr b. Wāʾil against them.” Maymūnah said: We stayed three days, then the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed the dawn prayer with the people, and I heard the poet reciting: “O Lord, I call upon Muḥammad, the pact of our father and his father, the ancient one.”
