Translation
✧ His ﷺ Departure from Makkah Muḥammad b. ʿUmar narrated from ʿUmar b. ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (may God Almighty have mercy on him), who said: When it was around noon on the fourth day, Suhayl b. ʿAmr and Ḥuwayṭib b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā came—and they both later embraced Islam. Ibn Isḥāq said: Quraysh had charged Ḥuwayṭib with expelling the Messenger of God ﷺ. They came to him while he was in a gathering of the Anṣār, conversing with Saʿd b. ʿUbādah, and said: "Your term has ended, so depart from us." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "What harm would it do you if you left me so that I could hold a wedding feast among you and prepare food?" He only intended thereby to win their hearts, but they refused him and said: "We have no need of your food. Depart from us. We adjure you by God, O Muḥammad, and by the pact between us and you, to leave our land. These three days have elapsed." The Messenger of God ﷺ had not stayed in any house; only a tent of leather had been pitched for him at al-Abṭaḥ. He remained there until he departed, and he did not enter under the roof of any of its houses. Saʿd b. ʿUbādah ؓ became angry when he saw the harshness of their words to the Prophet ﷺ, and said to Suhayl b. ʿAmr: "You lie, may you be motherless! It is not your land nor your father's land. By God, he will not leave it except willingly and contentedly." The Messenger of God ﷺ smiled and said: "O Saʿd, do not harm a people who have visited us in our camp." The two men fell silent regarding Saʿd. In the Ṣaḥīḥ, from al-Barāʾ b. ʿĀzib ؓ: When the term had elapsed, the polytheists came to ʿAlī ؓ and said: "Tell your companion to depart from us, for the term has elapsed." ʿAlī ؓ mentioned that to the Messenger of God ﷺ, so the Messenger of God ﷺ commanded Abū Rāfiʿ to set out, and said: "Let no Muslim spend the evening in it." The Messenger of God ﷺ rode until he alighted at Sarif. The people caught up with him, and the Messenger of God ﷺ left Abū Rāfiʿ behind to bring his wife Maymūnah to him when evening came. Abū Rāfiʿ stayed until evening, then set out with Maymūnah and those with her, and she encountered hardship from the fools of Makkah. .
